Accessibility statement

Place a Stone is built so that anyone can use it (to read, to write a memory, to light a candle), including people with disabilities. This says what has been done, what has not yet, and how to reach us.

Updated 27 September 2026

The standard

The site is built to meet Israeli Standard IS 5568, which is based on WCAG 2.0, at level AA, as Israel’s Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities (Service Accessibility) Regulations, 2013 require. Where WCAG 2.1 asks for more (text spacing, narrow screens and the size of touch targets), we follow it.

We tested it ourselves. It has not yet been audited by an outside accessibility consultant.

What has been done

The site is built from standard HTML (headings, buttons, links and labelled fields), so it can be used with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Every page declares its language and direction, in five languages. A memory or a name written in another language is marked with its own, so a screen reader pronounces it correctly.

The text colours were measured against the site’s backgrounds and reach a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, in the light and the dark appearance. The site follows the device’s dark-mode setting.

Text can be enlarged in the browser to 200% without losing content, and pages fit a screen 320 pixels wide without scrolling sideways.

Buttons and links are large enough to tap with a finger.

The family can write a description for every photograph, and it is used as the photograph’s text alternative.

Dates are typed, with no need for a calendar, and the site says back in words what it understood.

The accessibility menu

The button in the corner of every page offers larger text, high contrast, greyscale, underlined links, a readable font, text spacing, stopped animations and a large cursor. Your settings stay on your device and are never sent to us.

The menu is an addition. It does not replace the accessibility of the site itself, or your own assistive technology.

What is not accessible yet

What families upload is only as accessible as it was uploaded: every photograph has a description field, but it is not required, and recordings, videos and scanned documents have no transcript or captions.

Payment takes place on the page of Stripe, the payment processor. That page is not under our control.

The archive that can be downloaded from a memorial page has not been checked for accessibility yet.
